CHINA-PHOBIA AND THE DECLINE OF AMERICAN EMPIRE: MYTH OR REALITY

By

Abstract

The paper attempts to examine China-phobia in contemporary international relations especially as conceived by the United States under the leadership of Donald Trump. It also analyses the reasons why such China-fear has been developed and consequences of such fear. From library research using descriptive method, findings show that the United States has developed China-phobia in divergent areas of international relations for fear of the replacement of its global influence in all ramifications by the People’s Republic of China. The paper concludes that the decline of American empire is not a myth but a reality. Empires naturally decline and others emerge within the framework of international system and American empire is not the first to decline. The paper recommends perpetuation of healthy relations among the great powers and avoidance of unnecessary trade war which is not in the favor of either of the parties
