By

Abstract

The study investigated the Efficacy of Ethics infusion instructional Strategy in
Enhancing Undergraduate Students· Learning Outcomes in Environmental
Education. Six research questions and seven null hypotheses guided the study. The
study employed the pre-test, post-test quasi experimental design. All
undergraduate environmental education students in Nigerian universities
constituted the population of the study. A sample size of two hundred and ten (210)
students from Universities of Ahuja and Cal a bar was respectively and purposively
constituted into experimental and control groups. The researcher developed
Environmental Education Achievement Test (EECAT), Environmental Education
Retention Test (EECORET), and Environmental Education Attitude Scale (EECAS)
as instruments .for data collection. Data collected with respect to the research
questions were analyzed using frequency counts, standard deviations, and mean
(.\;) statistics. The seven hypotheses generated for the study were tested using
Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) and the Estimated Marginal Mean (EMM).
Result of major findings revealed that ethics infusion instructional strategy had
significant effects on achievements and retention of students in environmental
education There was a significant difference in the mean attitude scores of the
students as a result of treatment with ethics infusion instructional strategy. The
study found no significant relationship or interaction effects of treatment (ethics
il'!fusion instructional strategy) and gender on students' achievement, retention and
attitudes. Based on the findings of the study, the .following recommendations
among others were made: ethics infusion instructional strategy should be adopted
in teaching and learning of environmental education in Nigerian universities.
Government (at all levels) should explore the ethical principles embedded in ethics
infusion instructional strategy to prepare syllabuses that will enhance
environmental sustainability in Nigeria. Workshops, conferences, and seminars
should be organized to sensitize environmental education teachers on the need to
adopt and apply the ethics infusion instructional strategy for teaching and learning
of environmental education in formal and non-formal institutions in Nigeria.
