INFLUENCE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY IN THE MANAGEMENT OF SCHOOL RECORDS IN JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS OF FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY ABUJA, NIGERIA

Abstract

This study examined Information and Communication Technology facilities and
school records management in junior secondary schools in FCT, Abuja. The study
employed a descriptive survey research with a population of 5714 comprising 161
principals and 5553 teachers, and the sample size of 342 respondents comprising 64
principals and 278 teachers. Seven research questions and six hypotheses guided the
study. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire titled: "Information and
Communication Technology and School Records Management Questionnaire
(ICTSRMQ). The instrument was made up of 51 items on a four point liker! scale.
Instrument for the study was validated by experts in the field of educational
administration and planning and subjected to a pilot test after which a reliability
index of 0.86 was obtained Research questions were analyzed using mean, standard
deviation and percentage, while t-test and ANOVA were used to test hypotheses Hor
H05 and H06 respectively. Results obtained revealed that JCT facilities were
inadequate and not well utilized for school records management in public junior
secondary schools in FCT, Abuja, Nigeria. Based on the findings, the study
recommends that computer laboratories should be made available in all FCT junior
secondary schools which must be well equipped with adequate JCT facilities for easy
records management and that JCT facilities Installation and Monitoring Committee
(IMC) should be set up in FCT junior secondary schools by UBEB Secretariat for
adequate school records management.
