RELATIONSHIP AMONG TEACHER JOB SATISFACTION, CLASSROOM EFFECTIVENESS AND SECONDARY STUDENTS' ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN ORLU ZONE, IMO STATE

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between teacher Job satisfaction classroom effectiveness
and secondary students academic performance in Orlu zone Imo State .A survey research design
was adopted for the study. A total of 250 teachers and 500 students formed the sample of the
study. The samples were selected using stratified sampling technique from the 25 senior
secondary schools spread across the 5 local government areas in orluzone. The instrument for
data collection was two questionnaires: Teachers level of job satisfaction questionnaire (TLSQ).
and Students rating of their teachers classroom effectiveness questionnaire (SRETPQ). Each of
the questionnaires contained 16 items with response scale based on a four-point scale modified
liker type. The instrument was first validated by experts in educational administration and
planning. The TL.TSQ and SRETPQ returned reliability coefficient of0.78 and 0.71 respectively.
Three statistical techniques were employed for data analysis. The mean score and the standard
deviation were used to answer the research questions, while pearson product moment correlation
was used in testing the hypothesis. The study found a positive relationship between teacher job
satisfaction, classroom effectiveness and students' academic performance in Orlu zone.
Furthermore, the study revealed that although teachers are, satisfied with their job however they
are dissatisfied with some aspects of their jobs in terms of salary and allowance, promotion and
training opportunities am educational resources available for their work.
