Review of the Geometric Dimensions of Cubic Zirconia Nanotubes

Abstract

Cubic Zirconia nanotube (CZNT) is one of the inorganic nanotubes having interesting properties with wide scale potential applications, such as a nano catalyst during synthesis of NH3
. This trend is increasing due to its successful growth using mainly the anodization method. However information on geometric dimensions of CZNT is not readily available and limited. In order to estimate ranges of dimensions, experiments conducted for synthesis of CZNT were reviewed and data analyzed. The ranges for the dimensions obtained are: length: 100nm -19000nm, diameter: 30nm- 325nm, thickness: 5nm - 75nm, and Aspect Ratio:38 – 475. This indicates widespread variation due several factors such as the dimensions reviewed are for single-walled zirconia nanotubes and ranges obtained can be used for estimating the mechanical properties of CZNT using numerical approach using molecular dynamics and continuum mechanics via finite element modeling.
