Abstract

In the history of America, both Harlem and New York became the headquarters of many of the most important African American culture and political national organizations which included the National organization for the Advancement of colored People (NAACP). the National Urban League, and Marcus Graver Universal Negro Improvement Association. Efforts were made by certain magazines and newspapers which were based in Harlem, to stimulate a cultural awakening or renaissance. The African American writers such as the propagandist W. E B. Dubois, Marcus Graver etc dedicated their works to social and political progress as well as upliftment for black Americans. They also work towards the development of literary and artistic traditions Racism is a canker that has eaten deep into the fabrics of America. The blacks adopt diverse modes to ease off the adverse effects of racism m their lives. Diverse literary genres were adopted. But this paper focuses on drama The African Americans engage in writing and stage acts amidst other means of racial exposition. This paper focuses on Dutchman and The Hairy Ape. The racist theory upholds segregation among people of different racial descent and promotes inequality. It was discovered that racism can be curbed if freedom of speech and justice can be upheld A tactful declaration of freedom in it's entirety and empowerment of individuals irrespective of colour are sure answers to numerous social problems in America.
