Abstract

I will actually try to look at the conceptual analysis of sociology of development which pertaining to study of dependency theory. Dependency theory as a theory of developing nation, which explains why nationsare remain poor among plenty. The sociology of development is concerned with understanding the ways in which people in poorer countries try to improve the quality of their lives. As such it is an important and evolving areaof investigation. However, personal and national development in Nigeria has remained a mirage because of theinternal contradictions which paralyze the efforts of individuals and the programs of government to have anymeaningful impact on the people and the growth of the polity. Hence, frequent policy changes, policy somersaults and back-flips are usually experienced as each government that comes into power cancels theexisting policies of the previous government and replaces them with fresh programs. Studying the sociology of development will allow one to understand the world in a more global context, and will give one the tools toanalyse solutions put forward by policymakers who are making decisions about poorer countries. Since theleaders of most p
oorer or ‘developing’ countries try to raise standards of living by industrialising, the sociology
of development tends to look at the social and political effects of this economic process. In this study, I will examine theories that try to explain development and look at specific examples from developing countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa. Method adopts is empirical approach and descriptive method
