THE ROLE OF EDUCATION IN BUILDING RESISTANCE TO INSTABILITY IN THE NIGERIAN SOCIETY

Abstract

The paper had attempted to give an insight into the various causes of conflicts among the youths and the various activities of the relevant stakeholders who, through their efforts, made possible, the inclusion of Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies, into schools curricula and events which come in the forms of conferences, symposium, workshops, mediation processes and publication of texts bordering on this area of study. The paper also ventured into taking a look at the concerns of the World Bank as regard to education acting as a facilitator of peace studies. Recommendations for the effective implementation of the program in the schools and in the lives of the youths were made in the course of the study. They include that,ยท students should be made to embrace peace whenever confronted with conflicts. And it was recommended that, teachers, should endeavor to display the relevant peace education values in their dealings with the students in order for them to emulate. And to the government, the researcher recommended a holistic inclusion of peace education activities in the schools curricula.
