Man is an extremely complex creature. His nature is so constituted in such away that he has to behave in certain ways and refrain from behaving in other ways so as to maintain internal peace and harmony, ensure happiness andfulfillment, enhance productivity and creativity and render adequate servicesto humanity. In the management of institutions, the survival and success of such institutions depends on the behaviour of man. Hence ethics becomesimportant in this regard because it deals with the question of right and wrong,good and bad in human behaviour. It deals with how men ought to behave. Asthe title suggests, the paper examines the role of ethics in service delivery by public institutions in Nigeria. It xrays the importance of ethical behaviour inthe management of public institutions and the dangers of neglecting same tothe detriment of society. !inally, it proffers solutions or recommendations onhow to curb unethical behaviour and maintain efficient service delivery in our public institutions.
