teachers' perception of work environment and academic performance of students. The
findings indicated that despite the fact that teachers have a positive perception of their work
environment, students still performed very poorly in West African Senior School Ce1tificate
Examination. This implies that there is need for government, educational planners and
managers to take this into consideration by ensuring that necessary faci lities are put in place
to promote a conducive, positive and friendly learning environment in schools, especially
those located in rural areas. Also research should be conducted to investigate other
degenerating environmental factors other than teacher factor which impact negatively on
teachers' perception of work environment and consequently affect the academic
performance of students. Teachers should also be involved in policy making as well as
curriculum development as their contributions might bring lasting solutions to the problem
of poor academic performance of students.
